Diagnosing COVID-19 Through PCR Testing
Advance ER now offers PCR testing for Covid19. with results available in minutes. This rapid Covid PCR testing uses ‘Polymerase Chain Reaction, or PCR’ technology, which is probably the most accurate method now to detect the presence of Covid19 RNA in a patient. The Rapid Covid PCR testing at AER is approved by the FDA under emergency use authorization.
What Is PCR Testing?
The PCR test is a type of molecular test that detects genetic material or nucleic acid (RNA) present in a virus. RNA is only present if the virus is actively replicating, so if any active infection is found there is RNA present. PCR testing is administered similarly to Rapid Antigen testing, a sample is taken from the patient using a nasal swab.
It’s one of the best ways to find early signs of detected viral RNA, even before symptoms arise. This is why it’s critical to get a jumpstart on testing if you think you may have been exposed to COVID-19.
How Is It Administered?
As mentioned before, the PCR testing is administered by a medical professional through a nose swab sample, just like the antigen testing. Results for PCR testing results usually takes a few days to get, but AER now offers the Covid Rapid PCR with results in minutes!
However, studies have shown PCR testing to be more accurate than the common Rapid Covid Antigen testing. Many institutions, the airlines, and public gatherings require a person to have a negative PCR test results before engagement. The average turnaround time of Covid19 PCR results at AER is only 40 minutes!
