For many families, the hardest part of a child's medical journey doesn't end after the emergency has passed. It continues through long days at the hospital, nights away from home, meals grabbed whenever there's time, and the uncertainty that comes with waiting for answers.

At Advance ER, we see those moments every day. That's one reason our commitment to caring for our community doesn't stop at our emergency room doors.

On the third Monday of every month, members of our team step away from our clinical facilities in the Galleria Area and Park Cities to volunteer at Ronald McDonald House Dallas. It is our opportunity to support local and visiting families who are navigating some of the most difficult days of their lives.

A Home Away from Home for Families

Located in the Medical District, the House provides a place of support for families who travel to the area while their children receive medical care. The House offers lodging at no cost, along with nutritious meals, laundry facilities, and other supportive services that help families focus on their child's care.

Some families stay for only a few days. Others may call the House home for weeks or even months while their child receives treatment.

When a child requires ongoing care, expenses like lodging, meals, transportation, and time away from work can quickly add up. Ronald McDonald House Dallas helps ease some of those practical challenges by providing families with a comfortable place to stay and resources that support them throughout their child's medical journey.

What Serving Dinner Looks Like

Our volunteers prepare and serve dinner for families staying at the House. Through this monthly tradition, our team has the opportunity to provide practical support and connect with families outside of the emergency room setting.

A warm meal may seem like a small gesture, but after an emotionally taxing day, it offers something many parents haven't had time to think about: a chance to pause, eat, and recharge.

Beyond preparing and serving the food, our team is there to listen. A kind word or a simple conversation over dinner gives parents a moment of connection away from the demands of the hospital environment. When parents don't have to worry about grocery shopping, cooking, or clean-up after a demanding day, they can devote more time and energy to what matters most: supporting their child.

Why Giving Back Matters to Our Team

Working in emergency medicine means we see people during unexpected crises. In our centers across Dallas, we handle sudden illnesses, high fevers, and injuries around the clock. We know how quickly a normal afternoon can turn upside down when health is on the line.

Volunteering at Ronald McDonald House Dallas reminds us why compassionate care matters. While our physicians and nurses care for patients inside our emergency rooms every day, opportunities like these allow us to support families in a different way, outside the clinical setting, while carrying the same compassion and commitment that guide our care every day.

Stepping outside our emergency rooms and into the kitchen gives our team another way to connect with the people and neighborhoods we serve.

How You Can Support Ronald McDonald House Dallas

Sustaining a home-away-from-home for hundreds of families each year requires steady support from across North Texas.

If you are looking for ways to support families navigating pediatric medical challenges, Ronald McDonald House Dallas offers several simple ways to get involved:

  • Meals That Heal program. Gather a group of friends, family members, or coworkers to sponsor, prepare, and serve a warm dinner for resident families.
  • Wish List donations. Ronald McDonald House Dallas accepts requested household items and other essentials that help support families staying at the House.
  • Volunteer service. Individual volunteers assist with front desk operations, family activities, housekeeping, and special events throughout the year.
  • Financial contributions. Direct donations help cover daily operating expenses and allow Ronald McDonald House Dallas to continue providing services for families during their child's medical journey.

Supporting these efforts strengthens our entire local healthcare community, giving parents the strength they need while their children receive care in Dallas.

Standing With Our Neighborhoods Every Day

Every third Monday, our team is reminded that caring for people isn't limited to exam rooms or emergency departments.

Sometimes it's serving dinner.

Sometimes it's listening to a parent's story during a difficult season.

Sometimes it's simply showing up.

We're grateful to support Ronald McDonald House Dallas and the families who rely on it, and we look forward to continuing this tradition alongside a community that believes small acts of kindness can make difficult days a little easier.

While our community involvement extends beyond our emergency rooms, our locations remain available when families need emergency medical care. We are open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Call Advance ER at (214) 494-8222.
